GST Rules Change
On April 23rd, 1996 the Canadian Government
changed the GST regulations for traded-in vehicles at a dealership.
Customers now pay GST only on the "difference" between
the purchase price of the newly acquired vehicle and the value of their
traded-in vehicle, thus saving hundreds of dollars.
PST Rules Change
On March 29, 2000 the Saskatchewan Government
changed the PST regulations to coincide with the GST regulations as described
above.
Customers now pay PST only on the "difference"
between the purchase price of the newly acquired vehicle and the value
of their traded-in vehicle (see example below) thus saving hundreds of
dollars.
